Reading Music to Play Songs on Bells or Piano
Third grade students learn note and rest values. Knowing your music symbols helps you to read and write music. For help, use the Quizlet link to find practice sets on notes and rests.  The Music Tech Teacher.com link will let you practice in another fun way. Choose the Quizzes-Rhythms section near the top of the right column.

You can use bells (in the music room) or a keyboard to turn these  symbols into songs.

To practice at home:

  1. Open the attachment labeled Songs in Solfege 1 (or Songs in Solfege 2 ).  Print a copy of both pages for yourself.
  2. Open the hyper link to the Note Trainer.  At the bottom of the page click on the words "Display keyboard."  If the keyboard is too small, click on the square (next to the X) in the upper right-hand corner.  If the keyboard does not appear, but the words "Pop-Up Piano" are showing on the bottom of your screen clicking on these words will bring the keyboard to the front.
  3. Practice your songs until you can play them without stopping or making mistakes.
  4. Remember that do = C.  The order of the letters on the keyboard is: C  D  E  F  G  A  B  C.  Solfege order is:  do  re  mi  fa  sol  la  ti  do'
  5. Play them for Mrs. Johnson at school!

Have fun!
