PLTW
Project Lead the Way

Your child will receive PLTW for 25 minutes,
5 days a week.

By using Project Lead the Way Kindergarten curriculum your child will learn about the following:

Structure/Function:
Exploring Design

-Build a beanstalk
-Design a house
-Design a paintbrush

Students will be able to independently use their learning to...
1.  Evaluate a problem in a novel situation.
2.  Apply a step by step design process to solve a problem.
3.  Identify the structure and function of real world objects.

Structure and Function:
Pushes/Pulls

-Learn about pushes/pulls
-Learn about when pushes/pulls collide
-Change pushes/pulls
-Pushes/pulls design problem

Students will be able to independently use their learning to...
1.  Evaluate a problem in a novel situation.
2.  Apply a step by step design process to solve a problem.
3.  Identify pushes/pulls on real world objects.

Structure and Function:
Human Body

-Explore basic structure and function of the human body.
-Deeper look at the structure and function of bones.
-Assemble a skeleton and create a model x-ray of a hand.
-Engineer a cast for a broken hand.

Students will be able to independently use their learning to...
1.  Identify how a structure of a body part is related to it's function in the human body.
2.  Ask questions, make observations, and investigate ideas in order to acquire knowledge and solve problems.
3.  Apply a step by step design process to solve a problem.

Animals and Algorithms
-Design simple algorithms on a tablet
-Design and program a simple digital animation about an animal in it's habitat

Students will be able to independently use their learning to...

1. Work effectively as a team.
2.  Construct a sequence of steps to solve a simple problem.
3.  Persist when solving problems, exercising patience while iterating through testing and fixing the solution.
