How are students identified for Title 1?

Although funding for Title I is related to the number of students who receive free or reduced price meals, participation has nothing to do with economic status.  Title 1 schools identify the students at their school who need the most educational assistance based on the criteria that school has chosen. This includes performance on standardized tests, classroom assessments, and teacher recommendation.  Title I is not the same as Special Education.

Once students are identified, our Title 1 program:

  • Sets goals for improving the skills of the students identified.
  • Measures student progress to determine the success of the Title I program for each student.
  • Develop programs for each individual student in order to support/supplement regular classroom instruction.
